Replacing suspension bushings
« on: 04 January 2021, 12:08 PM »
Has anyone recently replaced all of the rubber on their 6.9?  My car is a joy to drive, but the creaks and groans are driving me nuts now that the car is my daily driver.

I'm curious on parts availability and total cost.  Thanks and Happy New Year.

Most parts should still be available ex Classic Center but you might need to brace yourself for pricing.  Best to go whole hog and do it all.  Not cheap at shop rates but it's doable as a home wrencher if you have the tools of course.
Biggest pain is to safely and securely raise the car to unload the suspension.
Alternatives to genuine MB is Lemforder if you can still find them, lately lesser brands have muscled them out of the market.  Just stay away from crap like Uro brand at all costs  :o

Thanks for the reply.  Good to know parts are still available.  My plan is to re do everything that is rubber and be done with it for another 45 years.

Yes, all the rubber on the car, everything. Two that people tend not to look at is the cross yoke bushes, they are big and heavy and can be the source of creaks and clunks on the W116. Doo them too. Available from the UK. Good luck.
