Rear accumunlator confusion
« on: 09 May 2020, 07:37 AM »
As noted in another thread, I'm replacing accumulators. The front were not problem. The rears are causing me heartburn.

I ordered a set from an eBay vendor I've used before without problems.  The accumulators were Corteco and significantly smaller than the old units despite being represented as the proper replacements.  My plan was to return them and in the meantime I ordered another set from another trusted vendor.  They just came and guess what?  Identical to the first set.  They're marked 21653072, 0.5L and 155 bar.  The old accumulators were all the same size, whether "red" or "green."  Seems like a different volume would necessarily have different compression characteristics, e.g., more gas compression for the same strut displacement, resulting in a different ride.  Maybe very different.

What do you guys think? Go ahead and try to fit them?  Thanks and cheers,
-Dave

Dave did you order by part number?  Should be 1263201315 for the rear.

Isn't the pressure rating stamped on the outer housing somewhere?  If so, and if they match, I'd use them.

I thought that there were just the two sizes out there for the 6.9. Bigger ones at the front and smaller at the rear. Not measured sizes. My supplier is https://www.niemoeller.de/en

Based on the 1263201315 part number posted above, this is what I can see at my favourite supplier for a Febi branded part:

Pressure: 57 bar
Thread: M14 x 1.5
Volume: 750ml

It's marked as equivalent to these:

OEN A116 320 14 15 — MERCEDES-BENZ

OEN A126 320 13 15 — MERCEDES-BENZ

The Corteco 21653072 part is listed as equivalent to these:
OEN 107 320 02 15 — MERCEDES-BENZ
OEN 123 320 00 15 — MERCEDES-BENZ

Lemforder does not sell these anymore, as whoever was the supplier no longer makes them as noted in their online catalogue.

Febi/Swag seem to either make their own, or have a different supplier. Maybe Lemforder was re-selling their stuff :D

Thanks to all for the help here.  I went to the usual sources in the first place only to discover that they're all out of stock.  That's what drove me to ebay.  Indeed, a shortage.  And it's also clear that what I got is absolutely wrong, so they'll be going back.  Fortunately the old spheres are still good and actually look fairly new. So, they're going back in the car while the search continues.  Hopefully they'll last till then.  Seems odd that the fronts are al over the place yet the rears are so dear.  Anyway, thanks again and please keep up all up to date if you learn more of find a source.  Cheers,
-Dave
