iauto lists these for 280SE, with no further details. seem to be 3 versions for the 280SE
A 1165011001
A 1165011901
A 1165011801

And these for the 280S:
A 1165011001
A 1165011901
A 1165011801
A 1165011501
A 1165011701
A 1165012601

I am at a total loss.
Sure hope there's someone out there that can explain this,

The 10-01 is NOT for Japanese 280se models, and only for Australia and Sweden;  It is for automatic transmission cars NOT equipped with air conditioning. So it will have a transmission oil cooler made into the bottom of it, and it will NOT have an engine oil cooler bolted to the side of it, and till have a smaller core/fewer cooling coils.
Up to ident. no.:
Australia 024,025 067292 except for 065538,064440, and Sweden 024,025 059103.  Applicable for all 280S models (116.020)
The 10-01 was also applicable to 280S, 280SE, and 350SE models that were assembled in Asia and South Africa.  Essentially, 116.020-52-xxxxxx, 116.024-52-xxxxxx, and 116.028-62-xxxxxx VIN cars.  All right hand drive cars, of course.  The "62" signifies assembly in Asia, and the "52" signifies assembly in South Africa.

The 19-01 is for Sweden, Australia, and Japan;  But used ONLY as of ident. no.:
Australia 024,025 067293 also installed on 065538,066440
Sweden 024,025 059104
Japan 000001
The 19-01 was also used on all U.S. model 280S, 280SE, and 280SEL, as the U.S. models would have had air conditioning and automatic transmissions.  So these would have a larger core/more cooling coils with a transmission oil cooler made into the bottom of it for the automatic transmission cooler.

The 18-01 was used only on 350SE/350SEL and 450SE/450SEL models. However, there is a VIN break on this radiator for the 450SE and 450SEL models.  This radiator was only up to chassis:
032 053079 AUSTRALIA EXCEPT FOR: 046870,  051753,  051878,  052475,  052885.
033 053367 AUSTRALIA EXCEPT FOR 048443,051751,051872
032 045246 JAPAN EXCEPT FOR 043389
033 045423 JAPAN
032 053278 SWEDEN EXCEPT FOR 048587,051278
033 052960 SWEDEN
These would have had provisions for an engine oil cooler, but not for Australian models.  In fact, all of the footnotes for ALL radiators in this post state that Australia did not have engine oil coolers.

The 15-01 was used only in 450SE and 450SEL models, but ONLY from chassis numbers:
032 053080 AUSTRALIA ALSO INSTALLED ON: 046870,  051753,  051878,  052475,  052885.
033 053368 AUSTRALIA ALSO INSTALLED ON 048443,051751,051872
032 045247 JAPAN ALSO INSTALLED ON 043389
033 045424 JAPAN
032 053279 SWEDEN ALSO INSTALLED ON 048587,051278
033 052961 SWEDEN

The 17-01 was used only on all 450SEL 6.9 cars except Australian 6.9.

The 26-01 was used only for the Australian 6.9 cars.  Again, I have to assume this was to accommodate the lack of the engine oil cooler on the Australian cars.

To add more confusion to an already confusing subject matter, there was also:
116-501-09-01 (Old part number for 280S and 280SE cars without air conditioning, applicable for LHD cars assembled in Europe)
116-501-11-01 (Old part number for 280S and 280SE cars with air conditioning, applicable for LHD cars built in Europe)
116-501-13-01 (Old part number for 350SE radiator, for use without air conditioning, applicable for LHD cars built in Europe)
116-501-12-01 (With transmission oil cooler, for use on cars with air conditioning, only applicable to 280S and 280SE RHD models assembled in Europe, Asia, and South Africa)
116-501-14-01 (With transmission oil cooler, for use on cars without air conditioning, only valid for 350SE/SEL RHD cars assembled in Europe, Asia, and South Africa)

Djeezus Aaron! You're back with a vengeance.  ;D
Even looking at that radiator chapter of War and Peace gave me an anxiety attack.
That'll teach me asking random questions.
let me try and read that again tomorrow..
