I'd have to concur with you there MT. If I had to start over there would be any number of arbitrary repairs needed.

I also had to think twice as to whether Friday was in fact tomorrow. :o

It's all done and the car is now registered. 8)

Once it is insured I'll take it out for a photo shoot.

Dude, congratulations 8)

It's funny but I never knew the reverse light switch was there.  And how good does a new oil pan look.  Your solex looks pretty darn clean too.  Nice work!

Thanks... I'm quite relieved at the outcome. 8)

There's a number of things that I need to fix though, but now I can do it at my leisure which is what it's all about.

I serviced the cooling system today, and I'm glad I did as the lower radiator hose was about to fail... It was hard and cracked.

Now that this car is nearly up to scratch in the mechanical department, I can in fact continue where I left off with the 6.9.

Excellent result Tim, I'm, looking forward to organising a drive out to my 'shed' for the local cars.

That sounds good John,

In the meantime I may go down to Margaret River in the 280S Friday week. That will be a thorough test run for it too.

I drove up to Bindoon in it too, it didn't miss a beat, but feels like you're traveling at mach 1 when the speedometer needle is on 110km/h for some reason!

The car has been great on the road, but needed new shocks.

I purchased a full set of Sachs shocks for it, and they arrived yesterday!

I suspect they will be quite an improvement, as the ones on the car have 350,000 and 250,000km on them (Front, rear), as the front ones came off the red car. They are stuffed.

I opted for Sachs over Bilstein, as the Bilsteins have often been known for a firmer ride (not something I wanted, as the ride is already rather jarring off the bitumen).

I fitted the shocks all round last night. The fronts are easy, just unbolt and install. The rears however require you to raise the car high enough that you can withdraw them from the holes in the trailing arms. I believe Oscar has covered this in his topic regarding shock replacement on his 280S, "Povo".

Here is the front in situ...

I then drove the car and it was quite a transformation, the ride was actually smooth and cornering/braking much more controlled. The knocking sound in the front end has also gone, that was one of the stuffed old shocks.

The only complaint with the handling of the car now is the fact that the steering isn't centred properly.

PS; One day I'll blast all that dirt off and leave a pile of mud at the carwash like the 4WD'ers do, haha. ::)
