The only thing that lets the interior down on this car is the condition of the seats, but they're not too bad really. I would consider replacing the leather with MB Tex at some stage to make the interior 99%.

The dash has one small crack to the right of the instruments (about 10mm), which is nothing as long as I take care of it. The rear window isn't heated so delamination isn't an issue, an added bonus.

Oscar, I would be renewing the rego on your 350... It would be so much easier than starting again from scratch IMO. I guess it depends on your priorities though.

MT, it is a rope seal... 1) Remove engine. 2) Remove crankshaft. 8)

PS; The 6.9 is in a lockup garage out of harm's way.

and 3) Installation is opposite of removal ;D  Too easy

Naturally my offer doesn't include the exchanging of any funds ;)
Sounds too good to refuse ;D

I didn't drive it last year, it was just a spare and barely did a few hundred km if that.  We'll see what happens but catching up here spurs the resto thoughts.  8)

TJ, just noticed you've got colour coded sills.  Just sayin.  Haven't seen any painted for aaaages.

Yep, the colour coded sills were done with a pressure pack by the look of things. It's all peeling off in places, but it's not hiding any rust which is fairly unusual for that location on the car as we all know.

I found the source of the "oil leak"... It was actually brake fluid from the clutch slave cylinder leaking inside the bell housing. I'll have to just take it as-is and see if it passes, then get a new slave cylinder.

That's what happens when a car has been sitting for a while with no fluid changes. The one from the blue car was also stuffed and leaking badly.

The good news is that it's not an oil leak.

Hope that was before you'd 1) removed engine and 2) removed crankshaft

Indeed,

But yes the car will be used on the weekend/trips. It's already booked in for the inspection hence the rush. ;)

After all the mucking around, I drove the 280S in for inspection on Wednesday.

It failed due to four main issues;

1) Worn trailing arm bushes in the rear.

2) Steering pulling to the left.

3) Reversing light switch intermittent.

4) Oil leaks needing rectification.

All in all, not bad. I'm about to go ahead and re-bush the rear and front lower control arms so it's all done.

Actually, the "oil leak" was the brake/clutch fluid from the slave cylinder.

I might ask to borrow your spring compressor again if I may, Bill. 8)

Indeed, it was going pretty well even if I do say so myself... It must have been the MT test drive. 8)

Yes, I actually found it very annoying without the tach at first, but am getting used to it now. I will be installing one though.

Here's the latest.

The reversing light switch was fitted, engine cleaned again, a chain tensioner oil leak fixed, new oil pan and so on.

I also fitted a new clutch slave cylinder and bled the clutch again. This resulted in a much firmer pedal and no clutch/brake fluid dripping from the bell housing.

The "Back-up light switch", as it is;

Fitted (I cleaned up the mess afterwards);

All fitted and ready to go;

I cleaned the engine again as specified. The A/C was completely removed.

The other side. I certainly hope they don't complain about "oil leaks" now;

New oil pan. There's a bit of oil around; The chain tensioner cap was leaking and it ran down the side of the block as well as dripping on the alternator. That's now fixed.

Beautiful - nothing worse than a timelimit as well as an old car.

I love the "can I borrow the spring compressor again " line. ;D

Should be - It's OK if I keep it a bit longer isn't it? ;D

Best of luck with the next bit and keep up the energy.

At least the Inspector didn't mention e****ion testing.

Bill

TJ 450

Yes indeed Bill on all counts. 8)

If the "E" word was mentioned it would be a nightmare. :o

Regarding the spring compressor, let me know when you're down this way next and I shall make arrangements. :)

Aside from the fact I had to modify the aperture in the spring seat, it all worked beautifully. Thanks again.
