Happy Sunday everyone,

Hoping this is a simple question. Had my 1979 280se for a few months now, and loving it. This week I've got a fault with the passenger door lock. The button comes up with the central locking, but the door cannot be opened from outside. Works fine if I pull the interior handle. I've tried to use the key, but makes no difference. Hoping this is an easy fix and would value any advice. Thx

My door handles were sticking and needed some force to open.  I bought this online tutorial and fixed all four doors.  Recommended maintenance. https://mercedessource.com/store/w116-exterior-door-handle-removal-and-release-adjustment-demand-video

You should be able to find all the instructions here:
https://handbook.w116.org/Chassis/72-Doors/

Start with this one:
https://handbook.w116.org/Chassis/72-Doors/
Removal of outside door handle.
You then may need to remove door card and investigate inside.

At this point a good re-lubing should be helpful.  Use a light grease where needed, not heavy bearing grease!

You might find that you need to adjust the "bite" of the pull on the handle.  If it's too tight then you'll get the symptom you're describing.

Thank you, I will look for info on how to do this and give it a try! Best Tom
