New member's '79 6.9 not getting power to distributor

I am glad I found this site.  I haven't been able to figure out if the gearshift safety switch (start possible only in P or N) would keep power from reaching distributor or if I need to focus on something else.  I have had very few problems w/ my 6.9 so I guess I was due.  I drive an '84 300SD (with 333000 km on the odometer) everyday, talk about low maintenance.  Thanks for reading my post.

Welcome, jaf!   :)

I assume you've checked all the low-tension wires?  They are quite fine and can easily fray; once enough strands have frayed, the remainder can fuse (melt). How about the condenser?  Or the ballast resistors?  Perhaps the coil?

Good luck.   :)

I replaced the coil and checked/ cleaned all fuses & connections.  I still need to test relays and the start interupt switch (I had mentioned in earlier post.)  I just wondered if the lack of power from coil to distributor was a "classic" symptom of one thing or another.  I was just checking autozone Free repair manuals online.  Only somewhat helpful I now no where switch is located and that here may be an one time over-ride (my car does not have the over-ride if memory serves.)  Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the welcome and for the advice.  I have a chance to work on the problem tomorrow & the next day and will check the items mentioned in the responses I received.  Thanks again and I will have update soon.
