Much better  ;)

Agreed!

BTW, welcome OP! Where in Upstate NY are you?

Ub2693v

I live in a little town called west chazy, it's about 10 miles south of the Champlain border with Quebec, and about 15 miles north of Plattsburgh.

Cool, I was hoping you were closer to Buffalo. I am in Toronto and go to Buffalo regularly.

Very cool. I will be following this thread. I am curious what you paid for it.

Let's just say I've spent more in parts this past week than I spent on the car. 8)
It's certainly not without its issues and the gentlemen I bought it from was fully aware of what it was and it's "potential" value, he bought it at an estate sale in 2010 and it has sat since then, last NYS inspection was 2002.
It was to good of a deal to pass up, I was really in the market for a w126 560SEL.

Fuel system has been sorted out, now time for hydraulic hoses!! I have the feed hose getting built now and ordered the hose rebuild kit from Mercedes source to do the hoses at the struts, hopefully I'll have time over the weekend to get to it. Still need to do a coolant and brake system flush before I put any miles on it.

For coolant use Zerex G-05 in 50/50 dilution with distilled water.  On brake fluid guys report good results with Pentosin though I run ATE brand and works well.

I use Pentosin DOT4 in my old Audi's, no issues with it, its a bit pricey but so is everything, thanks for the heads up on the coolant, that was going to be my next question!!  I am hoping to do some serious miles with it next week, give it a good workout!!

Change transmission fluid/filter too.  My transmission guy told me that it's very common for water to find its way into the transmissions  of old, barn-find cars that have been sitting for years (condensation perhaps as the transmission "breathes" with changes in the seasons).  Then, when driven, the moisture boils into steam which trashes the bands and friction plates.  In regularly driven cars this doesn't occur because any moisture is boiled off regularly so moisture can't accumulate.  Is this true?  I don't know, but it certainly sounds plausible so there's no reason to take a chance.  You don't want to hit with tranny troubles!

I was thinking that, I rarely buy cars with auto trans, in fact, this is the first auto trans car I've owned in 10 years, dextronIII?
