It sounds like your rims were designed for a latter model MB. After the 126, 123, and 107 the offset increased to between the mid 30s to 40s. Many of these rims have the correct bolt pattern but these will not fit without rubbing as you have experienced. The tyre size is large but it is not the direct cause of the rubbing.

oh. i wasnt plamnning to put them back on the car unless i get smaller front tires
