Need new engine in my 450se

I have a few spares already Ta Tim, I need a few K jet bits now as swap out diag parts

Ok I'll do my best....
The pressure is building up in the sump area and the pressure is leaking on one side of the top where the air filter is a fair bit only ever so slightly on the other and also the main seal at the back/bottom near the transmission.  It seems the rings are gone

Blow-by gases on an engine of this age is absolutely normal. They should be extracted from the top of the right cam cover on a V8 into the air cleaner assembly..Has a compression check been done?

Rings can be tested by a compression and leakdown test.

Does the engine actually:
Smoke at idle, while driving normally or when driven flat out?
Hard to start cold or hot?
Make unhappy noises from the top end until oil pressure is up?
Have oil pressure of less than 0.5bar at idle when fully warmed up?
Run on less than 8 cylinders?

How many km has it covered and when was the chain last replaced?

Yep one or two cylinders not going used to smoke a bit but less now plugs and leads changed, half the time it misses on  acceleration then kicks in couple years since chain been done and it doesn't stop leaking oil from the seal and compression test shows its got a bit escaping. It also make a slight tapping sound on start up then when going stops, and start up is always good.

Hope that means something he did show me an example on an engine from another car to try to explain it to me , hope it makes sense.
Thanks Brad

Ignition problem / weak spark on a couple of the cylinders.

Yeah it was worse but changed plugs does run a fair bit better still not 100%

It sounds like some thorough testing needs to be done so you know for sure what's going on.

If you've got oil leaking out everywhere, it may well be that the rings are shot and the oil will foul the plugs causing misfiring.

If you run the engine with the air cleaner off, you might see the blow by gasses puffing out the crankcase breather at the top of the engine too.

How many kilometres are on that engine by the way?

Agreed that a second opinion might be necessary...  But it still sounds like a Djet could be converted to Kjet by just swapping the manifolds....
Even if it's possible, why would one ever want to do this??

Because I could sell him my good Djet bottom end and he could swap his Kjet manifold to it.  In Australia you can't legally put an old engine in a newer car due to emission regs.  But it sounds now like they're not interchangable anyway.  I was trying to come up with a solution for him as we're not far from each other (same state and country), but it'd be wise to check the old engine more thoroughly before doing any major work

We need more impiricle data - numbers - for us to make a proper assessment.

Compression / leakdown figures
KM travelled
Oel pressure at idle when cold
Chain stretched measured using the standard method

Also shoot and upload a video of the engine running to youtube, showing the crankcase breathers disconnected so we can see the actual crankcase pressure problem in action.
