Can somebody tell me what this is? I put the gas cap in for scale.

I detailed my battery tray on my 6.9 and found this underneath lodged in below. I also cleaned up all the electrical connections below the tray. It can be a mess under there from the battery.

I went on and replaced the plugs, cap & rotor and wires. Wow, what a difference that made. I had a little miss before the new parts. My only engine problem now is that it's hard to start when the engine is warm. You have to crank longer and also hold the throttle down all the way. The PO said it needs a fuel accumulator. Any suggestions would be helpful.

My next project is the climate controll servo. Anyone have experience with the fellow from Montreal that rebuilds them?

I am enjoying working on and getting to know my a 6.9. Now that I have the engine running smooth, it's really fun to drive.

Jim, that goes on the side of the radiator.  There's one on each side, it's like a retaining clip that attaches to the radiator and the chasis surround.

Yay! I helped a 6.9 owner.  Whoda thought it possible ;D

I'm missing one but here's a pic of my right hand side one installed. Can you make it out? I think you put the bottom tab in first and then click or bend the curved bit in.  I'm sure you'll work it out.

I've no experience with 6.9's or rebuilt servos but I'm planning on one of these next summer.  Right now I have a ball valve in place of the servo on my '76 450SEL.

Michael,

I have considered the the UT unit. It's a great idea, but it's pricey. I think it's around $700. I've already talked to a local garage that has installed a couple of these units. They charge $1200 for everything.

First, I'm going to have my servo rebuilt for around $245. Then it might also be the amplifier. Thats another $125. If that works, I still save a bit over the UT replacement.

We'll see if that gets me some cheap heat. That Euro/manual system that our overseas friends have in their cars sure would be nice.

The Euro/manual system would be my first choice but I haven't seen a complete unit for sale I may not have the patience or knowledge to assemble all of the bits.

Oscar, you certainly did. I now see where the clip goes, but I haven't been able to  get it back on yet. Hopefully the whole car won't fall apart before I get it back on. Who knows how long it's been laying there?

No worry anyway, the 6.9 is down for repairs. I took out the climate control nightmare box today and I'm shipping it off to be rebuilt.
