What are the classic signs of a 'haircut' having taken place?

Sorry this probably wont be helpful Ollipar, but if one taped the tripmeter reset button down, one would find the odometer freezes.  But it certainly doesn't wind the clock back.

I ask because I'm a little suspicious of my odometers' under-achievement. Only 10.000km between 1993 and 2006....according to the log.

Maybe you wouldn't be able to notice at all, if someone got another speedo out of say a wrecked car and replaced it, how would you tell?

On older speedos you could use an electric drill to wind them around, no idea if this is still possable.

My 250C has only traveled 3500 miles in the last two and a half years.  I live nine miles from work and only work half the days in a month.  My truck can take up to five years to make 3000 miles.  My insurance company doesn't believe me and requires me to write down the mileage every six months.

The wifes car, on the other hand, has traveled over 4500 miles since we bought it in January.
