Hi folks, I will be removing the inlet manifold on my 1979 V8 4.5 to find a vacuum leak so two questions as cannot find it in the manuals  ???

1) the NM of torque for the bolts that hold the inlet manifold in place (I have new ones to replace with),

2) the size of that very short water hose between the water pump and the inlet manifold. I recall a thread recently on the hose size but cannot find it  ::)

Many thanks  :D

To my knowledge there was no torque value specified for the intake manifold fasteners, as I've never been able to find any listing for them in the M-117 engine manual or in any of the technical data manuals.  In this case, you'll have to take into consideration the shank diameter, thread pitch, length of the bolt, and the grade of the bolt, plug all of that into a formula to get an approximation of the correct torque value.  Why Mercedes didn't include this in the literature is asinine in my opinion, since they include torque values for most everything else on the engine.

The hose you ask about is something that you have to buy by the meter and cut to length.  The part Mercedes number is 900271-042012.  The length needed for a 4.5 engine is 40mm.

Found this link when searching the part number you provided so I am now on the right track and will source a silicon type hose me thinks  ::) ....

I have emailed this link and will fish out the Gold with credits/s in case the link dies but has good info in it.

Yes, the NM torque details  :o why did MB drop the ball here??? When working on an old Mazda diesel they had all this info and from memory the inlet and exhaust manifolds were around 30-40 NM but will run past my Brother-In-Law and Franciour a local mechanic and see what they come up with from their HUGE experience  8)

Thinking TJ450 would know as he did the Heads on a 450 4.5 but he is difficult to pin down as fully travelling and work busy when chatting to Nathan V at recent MB meet  :(

Will get there and will fully post results of my mechanical expedition and hopefully post photos on a thread if the photo upload is sorted (had issues a long time ago..)

They are grade 8.8 bolts m8x1.25.  We usually go for 23Nm.
