Just purchased my first W116

Thanks for adding me to the group. I've just purchased my first W116 a 79 450SE (after owning many W126s). She needs some TLC, been parked up for a long time.

Upon inspection, I think I've done ok, but needs the following

- Steering damper
- Idle Arms
- Pistons stuck in rear callipers
- Remarkably rust free, but does need some rust repairs

I'm sure I'll need to ask the group questions when they arise, but in the meantime interested in knowing what the audio head unit that would have been supplied to this UK delivered car was?

Nice find and welcome to the asylum
Once you get hooked on the 116 ride there's no going back. The 450 has more than enough grunt and once you have the suspension gone over you'll have the "iron fist in the velvet glove"

Quick question, as my car is a UK delivery, what were the differences between it and an Aus delivered 450SE/SEL. I assume velour is one, as most 450SE/SELs I've seen are either MB Tex or leather?

It's never easy to say after so many years of sun, but your interior looks like code 901 "anthracite"

No difference and the velour was an option the MBtex standard. Its the US version that is very different.

UK version is high compression, aus version was reduced compression after late '76.
