Ignition barrel woes

I could use a bit of help on a topic you all are probably tired of.
I have a 1/76 450sel.
The car wants to shut off because the key is not staying in the run position.
If I put some pressure on the key, it will run...take my hand off and it stops.
This switch does not use a small tool to push in and screw out the barrel. It has a c-clip and no hole in the face.
I seem to remember a thread here about removal but do not see it now.
It also seems this early switch is hard to find replacements for.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Your issue is likely to be in the ignition lock, rather than the switch (the electrical part).  I don't know how to remove that type of lock cylinder, but you could test the electrical switch by removing the instrument cluster and separating the switch from the lock assembly (3 screws).  It looks like you might be able to get a replacement lock cylinder here https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/1164620279.htm?pn=116-462-02-79-M253&bc=c&q=ignition.

Feather535, I called Pelican (I am a frequent flyer there) and they told me that version was out of stock.
That said, I will take it apart and verify your diagnosis. Out of curiosity, can I disconnect the lock feature and get rid of this problem? Thank you for the quick help....I hate letting the car sit.

Well, once the switch is separated from the lock assembly, you could start the engine by turning the switch with a screwdriver.  But that would be problematic as a long-term solution, if that's what you're thinking; the lock assembly is in the way and the switch is difficult to reach with the instrument cluster in place.

I will report back once I dig down to the level of understanding.
You are right, I don't want the final solution to be a screwdriver. I thought maybe by disconnecting the steering lock, I might be able to adjust things back to normal. Obviously I don't know what I'm talking about until I get in there.
I've built my share of race cars by bypassing these things and going with a power switch and starter button, but that seems even worse than a screwdriver!
