How to pull the front console panel?

Hi all,

As you can see in this pic I've got the original black vinyl lower console correct for my '77...but it has a switch in it for the CB radio antenna that is not MB.  I'd like to pull the console and replace it with a 78 - 80 Zebrano wood panel (I've already got a Zebrano ashtray) and simultaneously use a spare MB antenna switch for the CB setup (can't remove it as they drilled the pass rear fender - it doesn't look too bad with twin antennae).  A bit of 70's kitsch I suppose - you can see the CB radio (the tuner is built into the handset) attached to the left side of the console.

Can anyone tell me how to best pull the console?  Is it difficult?  Any precautions or problems I should expect?

Frankly, I'd love to put the switch up in the 4 - switch array where the sunroof switch would have gone but I'm just not anal enough to go to that much effort.

John

Remove the ashtray and you will find two screws under it on each side, those are the non obvious ones that hold it down.

yes,
If I remember correctly, remove the ashtray, then remove the ashtray frame 2 screws holding it, and then you will see 2 screws in the front corners of the console, take the screws out and then pull the console backwards (not up).

This is how it is with the wood console, with the plastic console I dont know beacause in my W123 (with the plastic console) there were no screws in the corners it was simply held done by the ashtray frame.

Btw I would have a spare zebrano wood console for the W116.

How many Reindeer would be required to purchase that console, Tomi?   :D

PS:  How goes your quest for curtains?

Well John,
the wood console would be half a reindeer. But I feel the postage would be close to half reindeer as well, equalling to a full reindeer, which is quite a bit. Perhaps it will be better for you to find it there, but I may post a pic if you are still interested. It has the usual cracks on the corners in the lacquer surface ( not the wood).

BTW one reindeer is equal to 60 $  ;D

The curtains have to be purchsed from a tailor shop, and it is still in a planning phase.

Hmmm

My car has a console too  :D and it has two more screws at the back of the console, so we are looking at a total of six screws.

Dont force anything.

Monsieur Tomi

Maybe I might be interested in the zebrano console but just the zebrano components.

And like you, I do not use reindeers but â,¬â,¬â,¬â,¬â,¬

Maybe we can start a brawl over a zebrano console   ::)

Oh I forget monsieur Tomi

My car has no AC. The zebranno parts I am looking for  are those with the single rotary heat control...

If anyone else has these eparts, I would be interested but preferably of Euro source as shipping to "Foster drinking kangaroo" or "Budweiser sipping rattlesnake" countries costs a lot, not to mention these niggly customs officers whenever a package appears from outside the European community  >:(
