Hello my friends,

i have a trouble with my 450SE.
The engine had started to fail last week.
I accelerate and the engine fails, even the idle is not ok.
There was some sparks at the distributor cap, so i replaced it today. The idle is ok now, but it still fails a lot when i accelerate.
Do you have any ideas? Waht it might be?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards
Helder

Hi Helder,

You don't say much about the year of your car. However, I always suspect the electricals first as they the the weakest point. How good is your automotive diagnosis, have you got any experience of this kind of fault analysis or is this your first attempt?

Thanks mate,

the car is from 1976.
I have no experience at all!  :o

Well, you either need to brush up on how the ignition side of things work or take it to somebody who does. Have a look through the manuals on this forum for diagnosing ignition problems. Your problem could be the ignition amplifier, the coil, the HT leads, the distributor or something else. If the ignitiion is in a perfect condition then it is necessary to check the FI system for which non-DIY equipment will be needed.

Cheers,
Adam
