Title: heater valve difference
Post by: floyd111 on 25 November 2016, 08:19 PM
I barely dare ask...
What is the difference between valve 1168300084 and 1168350020?

I was just about to celebrate my NOS purchase of 1168300084 for my M110.. Can I continue? :-[

Functionaly, none. The latter is the older part number, made of aluminium and with a different vacuum actuator. The former is the newer all plastic one, with a smaller actuator. The black one was introduced around 1978 - from what I've seen on other euro cars.

Both can be replaced by the much cheaper W201 valve, as I have done.

Well, then I'm happy! Those metal ones are hard to find!
Now I need to go find a second one that doesn't break the bank.

The W201 one you speak of is 1078300584? (photo 1)

google says this is 1168350020? That can't be correct, when you look at the next pic.

And this is the one I bought under the 1168300084 name. The one I just bought is the NOS one in the photo. Funny how the bag tells us it is actually a 1168350020!
But, contrary to what I understand from your words, mine is not black, and not plastic.
Guess you were referring to another replacement number?
The only black one I knew of was the plastic 1078300584.

Nr 1168300084 in google does not produce a single parts fiche hit, only used part pics, that may -or may not be 1168350020 or 1168300084

I've mixed up my part numbers, sorry. Yes the black one is a 107 number, and is the newer valve. The 116x20 is the older metal one. They go bad if unused (internal oxidisation!) and start leaking. I'll check the EPC for the 116x84 to be sure.

The 201 part number looks almost identical to the 107, but is part-white and ~5x cheaper then either of the other two. Meyle also make that part as a third party.

Right, EPC search time to get my own facts straight(ish) :)

Below is the 116x20, made by Behr. That's what I refer to as the "early version".
I say early, because I've only ever seen it on pre-1978 cars. I've always seen the later part number on post-1978 cars.
However the 116x20 is listed as valid for my Euro 1979 VIN.

There is no 11683000084 in the EPC at all, but there is the A1168300684, which got me confused.
That's the Mecano-Bundy black plastic version I refer to as the "later one". It also appears to be identical to the A1078300584 part. No surprise there.
The EPC indicates this is a US-model specific part and apparently only used up-to chassis numbers around the 44000 mark, with a few exceptions in the 52000 range.

Go figure... I'm totally lost now.

And to add to the confusion, there's a A0008300084, which is a valve as well, but for A/C equipped cars.
If you've bought this one, that's not the part you want. If you've bought either of the two above, they're perfectly interchangeable, and honestly I'd go with the plastic version.

I did the same EPC search and left totally confused as many others appear to be if you google all these part numbers.  You see all the PN's and pictures mixed up.

Right, I have a 1975 Euro 350SE needing a new heater control valve. The inop HCV in my car is p/n 116-830-0084. I have Researched this till I am cross-eyed. Does the 107 series part work in my older 116?

Both the 107 and 201 part will work. The 107 is a direct replacement, the 201 will fit as-is too, but may need slight modification to the mounting bolt slots for perfect fit.

I've now had the 201 part in service for 15k+ miles, and it works great.

I echo that, the 201 part has worked fine for me for about 6 months now despite a light struggle on installation due to holes location.  It wasn't expensive at all at about 20EUR.
