Title: fuel level sending unit
Post by: RD on 19 December 2021, 11:23 AM
Hello everyone, my car is a 1980 300SD; build date April 1980. I want to take out the fuel level sending unit to inspect/clean. But the rear hat shelf has no First Aid kit! There isn't even an opening for it! I'm assuming the shelf was replaced by a prior owner, as the owner's manual does say that's where the First Aid kit should be. There are 2 speakers there. Would the sending unit be removed from under the car on some of these W116s? Or should I remove the entire hat shelf?

Yes most likely a previous owner replaced the parcel shelf as they take a beating from sun exposure.
You will need to remove it yes to access the sender unit.  I think mercedessource has a video on youtube on this topic.
