Fuel distributor rebuild kit - worth a try?

Seems like the outcomes with these kits is mixed at best.  Or is it?  You can get the kit for US$70 or so on eBay.  In the worst case I send the FD to Flowtech and I'm out $70.  OTOH if it works then I've save a lot and had the fun of the project.  I've got the cast iron FD.  Any thoughts or experiences to share?  Thanks,

I do a lot of fd rebuilds, and I can give you some pointers off line.

In broad strokes, you should succeed with rebuilding a cast iron unit without any special tools or facilities.  The alloy units have flow adjusters for each port, and need to be mounted on a flow test bench to calibrate.  I think it's basically impossible to rebuild an alloy unit without proper calibration facilities.

I've not had any luck.. The local Ozzie guru has flamed out on 2 cast iron units I sent in for o/haul after  I  flunked.
The expert's opinion is that the cast iron units are getting old and worn  .yep after 40 years, the dripping water on the stone is having an impact.
The biggest niggle is idle.fuel flows are down to minuscule values. how they ever got the cast iron units to idle has me intrigued.
I've had a couple of alloys ohauled and once mounted, the idle was ho hum
I have my own calibration/diagnostic system now and you can really tune the alloys.

Thanks for the input.  Sounds to me like there's little to lose and yet potentially something to gain, even if success isn't assured.  I'm gonna go for it and will report on my findings.  Cheers,
