Question for the brains trust.
Are the front axle spindles interchangeable on the 116/123/126 series.
some ebay sellers are indicating that they are interchangeable.
any information would be appreciated.
thanks

i checked the niemoeler site for W116 W123 and first generation W126 and it gives the same partnumber
Yes, I believe they are interchangeable to some degree (for some models). But several exceptions e.g. I know the 450 SEL 6.9 has a reinforced steering knuckle compared to 450 SEL.
Yes Johnny, that's it the steering knuckle
Thank you Jan S, they do look the same.
I'm removing one from a W126 500SE parts car, I'll do some comparison photos.
cheers
Robert
Also be aware that later models had provision for ABS sensor.
full hydrolic suspension W126 have reinforced steering knuckle's too but most likely the most of them are equipped with ABS
ok thanks again
They are basically interchangeable, except that the versions are
1 standard with no abs for 123, 116, 126
2 standard with abs for non hydro 116 and 126
3 high strength with no abs for 6.9
4 high strength with abs for full hydro 126 and 6.9 with abs. I have an abs 6.9
Hi Ryan,
Thank you for a very concise explanation, it makes sense
I've now removed the knuckle from the old 500SE parts car and will be doing a close comparison with one off a 450SE
I'll post some pics for entertainment purposes.
cheers
Robert
OK here are the comparison photos of the steering knuckles from W116 and W126
As far as I can tell the seem to be identical
