I have a question on how to replace the rear flex disc on my 1980 450sel.....can I just unbolt the disc and slid it out...slid in new one and bolt up..or is it more then meets the eye?

Have not done it myself, but I know it is a little more involved than that. You can do it with the driveshaft in place though.
I am sure some other member will weigh in with more detail.

The tail shaft has to have the center bearing support unbolted so you can effectivly shorten the tail shaft to get a pin that goes through the disc into the yoke. This pin is to keep things together if the flex disc fails.
so exhaust off.

I've replaced the rear flex disc without doing any of the sort. It's much easier to undo the bolts holding the diff to the rear cross member. Then move the diff out to release the flex disc.

wow unbolting exhaust or the diff itself...I only quickly looked but it really didn't seem like any of that needed to be done..I can understand unbolting the center bearing but all the other things really??
