Fitting 6.9 rear rubber emergency suspension blocks

Hi All -

1. The 6.9 Owner's Manual optimistically states: "push down axle somewhat, if required". With the rear of the car jacked, wheels removed, the gap to insert the left and right blocks is too tight, with the blocks' cupped recess needed to slip over the rubber bump stops. Hence the statement in the manual. But the force needed to push the axle down is greater than one person can manage while another person (ideally) inserts the block. Does anybody have a suggestion based on experience, to push the axle down temporarily, opening up the gap by the required additional 20-25 mm or so? Maybe n vertical timber cut to length/wedges or similar tapped into place temporarily, bracing off the roof of the wheel arch, lower end on the wheel hub. It's almost there, but not there. I need to truck the car to get new accumulators fitted, and I want to do it properly.

2. My rear rubber bump stops need replacing (6.9 remember). Trying to nail down the part number. I'm not convinced yet whether it's 1153200344, before ordering a pair. Waiting for registration to the portal (post-EPC) to be validated through the Club site: takes ages. Can anybody confirm the part number please?

Thank you.

There is a more recent 123 number if memory serves correctly for the stops. I bought a dozen from FCP several months ago because they were cheap. I tried to take one off the creampuff 300SD at the Pull-A-Part last summer but didn't have a long enough socket to go through the rubber. I'll look at my notes when I get a chance. Feel free to correct me if anyone wants to shoot my post down.

I agree, its darn hard!

I've heard of people suggesting using the jack to push it down (if you have a spare jack as the wheel will be off the car!)
ive only fit them a couple of times, one was on this wreck I made the video for (but it didnt matter if I scratched this car).

I dont have the best answer, but a wooden block seems reasonable in there as you won't damage to much

Thanks Nathan -

Somehow I missed your reply. I do have a spare jack so may try that, to push the axle down a bit.

Ordering bump stops now, to fit when next in there.

Cheers.
