Title: Exhaust header
Post by: Thegger on 28 November 2018, 03:23 PM
Hello,
I have the ones with the catalyst converters straight after the manifold. I really feel this is killing my lower rpm.
Any recommendations? Need to get rid of that catalyst converter and build a new exhaust.

6 Cylinder, or 8 cylinder?  Either way, they can be removed, take out the insides of the catalyst, and then re-install.  Completely getting rid of them will require replacing the exhaust manifold(s), too.

Aah smart, thanks😊 Wasnt aware of that. The engine is an eight. 450se 224hp they say. Feels like 124 😂

Im looking for the ones that not all outlets go to the same manifold. 2+2 must be better?

I have a set of M116 2+2 exhaust manifolds from my 350SE, with downpipes. They should fit the M117 too, I think?
Not sure if there's a difference between RHD and LHD models, mine are RHD.

One of the manifolds is cracked, and has been welded before, the other is good.
Downpipes are reasonable, but could use sandblasting and a coat of high-temp paint.

I'll part with the complete set for reasonable money, if you're interested.

Check out the w126 tri Y setup and buy a set or get an exhaust shop to fabricate a set of extractors. If you have to retain cats go for hi flow aftermarket ones which a pretty cheap and readily available.

I guess there is some difference from the header only. I got alot more room on my right side for the downpipes, mine is LHD.
Could you post me some pictures of the headers? I also have the EGR on my left manifold.

M117 engine is higher and larger (due to the longer stroke) than M116, so the exhaust manifolds are different too. M117 exhaust manifolds are slightly longer in the lower part that connects on the downpipes.

That's good info. Thanks.

But does it fit on the engine?

Im gonna empty my catalyst converters and see if that helps first. And then look for new manifolds. 2+2.
But i have this EGR on my left side also.

But does it fit on the engine?

Yes. You can put M116 exhaust manifolds on M117 engine, but you will have to extend downpipes or make special longer downpipes.

Got this today.
It dont have EGR valve. But do i really need that?
If i just plug the lines. My catalyst converters are leaving this car asap 😂
