Title: European headlamps--low and high beams?
Post by: charleskidd on 18 May 2020, 10:16 PM
Please excuse me if this is a stupid question.

Bought a set of European headlamps to swap into my 1980 300SD. I've looked at several threads on this website and the article in the Mercedes Benz Technical Companion about installing these lights in a 300SD specifically. I've found lots of great information about splicing in the fogs and alternatives for the air intake.

But a very basic question lingers.

Just one H4 headlamp in the European unit? Does this function as a low beam alone--no high beam? Does the plug from my existing low beam plug into the H4 bulb? Or the other way around? Do I just leave the remaining unused plug hanging?

I'm attaching a picture of the back of the European driver side unit. Is it missing anything that is contributing to my great confusion?

Thank you!

Being in Australia, I've never seen the US version lights in person, but in these Euro lights the one H4 operates as high and low beam.

It sounds like you need to rewire it to combine the two.
