EPC help with ground cable

Hi guys

Looking for a part # on my 6.9, I have scoured the EPC but am stumped  :o

Looking for the ground cable which runs from the engine to the negative battery terminal.  It connects approximately at the alternator area.

Mine is a bit worse for wear but I cannot see this on the schematic?

Cheers

Don't you mean the positive cable? Negative cable goes from the terminal to the chassis.

Thanks but on my 6.9 in addition to the negative terminal to chassis connection, there is also another cable which connects to the clamp on the negative terminal and runs to the motor and bolts onto the alternator mounting bracket.

Thanks yes I looked at this one before but I think it might be the strap between the bellhousing and the chassis ???

I pulled the wire and it seems to me like it's a "home brew" type cable to be honest.  It has a stamping on the insulation:"#6 SAE COPPER".  Any auto - electrical guru's care to chime in?  The crimping on the eyelets are very badly done so I highly doubt this is an OE setup ???

Can't remember if if I have ever seen a stamping/mark on the wiring on any of the Mercs.

Thanks yes I think this must have been done under the previous owner's hands, I think I'll remove it and see what happens, it really does not look factory spec to me.

An auto electrician friend told me that often a tired alternator will work better if you add a dedicated earth cable to it. I don't know the science behind it, but it does work in my experience. Sounds like someone has done this with your car.

Thanks makes sense.
