But, my cars are both fitted with German-language based goods.

Let's see if I can get this one :)

Thanks Peter.

Factory rebuilt 6.9 engine. Nice pictures.  Wish I could get my engine that clean.

What a thing of beauty! Wonder if this is the crate engine the Classic Centre was trying to blow out a while ago...

How does such a purchase hold up against originality of the original car?
Datacard would have a different engine-number listed, no?
What are your thoughts here?

daantjie

Only if you have to have a "numbers matching" car. To me this is a cool thing to have to keep if your engine says bye-bye but not worth what they are seeking I'm sure. The 6.9 engine is uber tough and will keep running with marginal TLC.  You have a much higher chance of frying a transmission.

I am usually all about originality, having said that I think that engine is gorgeous. I would love to have it in the corner of my garage as a show piece and backup engine. I would not pay anywhere near what they are asking simply because I don't NEED it. It is probably worth it frankly, just not to me. If I needed a replacement engine I would have no concern about swapping it in and no longer being numbers matching.

By the way, I don't see a smog pump....does that mean its a high compression euro?

Relatively speaking, the starting bid seems like a pretty decent price. I wonder what the reserve is though.
For comparison, a fully rebuilt M117.968  (from a W126 560) can be got, without auxiliaries, for around 9000EUR in Germany.

not the same, but it sure looks to be a same-function, different design

anyone know what the 2 labels are on the valve cover?

The right-most is definitely the ignition sequence and timing setup one.
Like the one you've linked (maybe not the exact same, as Stan pointed out).
Available from MB, and quite cheap too.

Can't say what the other one is, doesn't look familiar.

part number?

V8 M116/M117 "Indicating Plate".
A1175842121

It's a bizarre part - the EPC doesn't list it at all, when searching for all parts for the M117/M100/116032/116036 subgroups, yet you can buy it:
http://www.online-teile.com/mercedes-ersatzteile/A1175842121_Indicating-Plate.html (I've bought mine 09/2015, and the part number matches)

Can't say if the 6.9 has the same sticker or not (probably not).
