Easy fixes with nice results

Hi guys

Thought I'd start a thread with relatively easy (and cheap) fixes which give nice results.

Often overlooked part methinks is the guide bush for the fuel flap lock actuator, part # 107 805 00 17

You just unhook the actuator and use this opportunity to scope it out as mine was done like dinner. Replace if it does not hold vacuum.

Then simply push out the old bushing if still intact. Then push in the new one with a light smear of dialectric grease around the housing in the body,  Permatex brand is my personal choice.

Hook up the actuator again making sure the pin catches the channel inside the guide.

Then marvel at how much tighter it locks  ;)

Yep, good tip. I'm guilty of not doing this yet, but it's on the cards.

Another one of the easy fixes with nice results  - Hood Star!  Only after I changed mine out did I realize how bagged the old one was.  10 minute job, totally transforms the grille and frontal appearance ;D

Likewise with the grill chrome strips, not overly expensive (using genuine) but the results are impressive. Another easy fix I do is high gloss boot polish on the black strips within the chrome bumpers. A little bit of elbow grease, do it twice and use a standard boot polishing brush and the results are excellent.

Peter, that darn vertical strip is about 6x the cost of the horizontal ones. from memory it was about about 100 dollars for the vertical! the horizontals are only about 15 last time I checked. remember about 3 clips per strip

Yes Nathan the vertical strip was a higher price but I got one from Germany at an ok price, the horizontals from Pelican Parts at a great price and the clips were aftermarket but worked well with a little touch of cooking oil to get them into position.

Peter

Hey Nathan, there is a full set on gumtree if you are interested, URO brand and stated as OEM, horizontal is $8 and the vertical set complete is $60.

Back to easy fixes with nice results:

- power steering fluid and filter - why do people never change either is beyond me

- steering damper - makes a big difference to road feel at speed; cheap and trivial to replace
