Doubt about 450SEL 4.5 suspension

Hi guys, on my W116 factory plate there is optional code 484 after searching on the internet I've found this is code for hydraulic suspension but also I have found out there is no such suspension on the 4.5 or there isn't?

if you say "factory plate" which plate are you referring to?  The one on the radiator support next to the latch for the hood/bonnet?  This is not the "data card" by the way.  Code "484" denotes paint code "Black-Red Metallic".  What colour is your 450?  The plate on the rad support usually carries the paint code along with some other codes but does not have the full "data card" info.

Yes, exactly, so is my car supposedly to have that?

There is a rear self leveling system that was optional. The full hydropneumatic suspension was only available on the 6.9 with the W116.

If there is no evidence of there being a rear SLS system, it may have been removed in the past.

It seems like your car did come with self leveling suspension.

You should either see a metal canister near the firewall:


Or a plastic one near the power steering reservoir/pump:


And a valve near the rear differential:

Thank you very much guys. I will try to lift the car and check under it. But I have no reservoirs in the engine bay. I really want to restore this car to its full originality.

Thank you very much for the info!! I knew the color of mine had been changed sometime in the past, but I prefer black so much mora than the original color that I am thinking to keep it this way.

Also I was able to lift the car and yes I could confirm it once had the SLS, that is great, now will try to rebuild it.
