So what are you guys doing to replace worn out distributors and blown vaccum advance units? I have yet to find either one besides supposdly good used units.....

Tony66_au

I would think both items are available new still and im sure someone can confirm or deny this but the other option is to go electronic and adapt.

"v8 new old stock K-jet ones go for anywhere from $500 - $1200"
:'( Cant remember where i got my distributor, pointset and cap-) but I payed a lot less.

gf

OOOOOOOOOHHHHH! shaft and all :P

Yeah I'm looking for the whole unit...or at the very least a vaccum advance..so far I've struck out everywhere and havn't heard back from the dealership....

Well, there is a pre-1977 W116 280S (carbureted) at a local junkyard, as well as a 1979 W123 280CE. I could probably pick up one of them.

Wow thanks for the offer... I have a 1980 450 sel with the 4.5l v8..my understanding is 77-80 with that engine should work?

Squiggle Dog

Oh, I was thinking you had a 280SEL for some reason. Anyway, there are two pre-1977 W116 450SEs and also two 107 450SL/SLCs at the yard. I'm not sure as far as interchangeability goes.

the two pre 1977 ones wont work..the vac advance might be the same but the distributor itself is different...the w107's should work fine as long as they are post 1977...

Okay, I'll check the years of the 450SL and 450SLC the next time I am there and will try to get a photograph of the distributors.

Is the vacuum advance diaphragm the only thing you need, or would you want the entire distributor?

Also, do you know your engine number? That might help me to find the right one. If I note the engine numbers from the cars in the yards, it may help us to use the EPC and find out if it will work. It seems there are three versions of the distributor and vacuum advance, based on engine number.

I think I just need the vac advance...assuming I can get the old one out lol. I think my engine number is 117.986.
