Diagnostic "Trash Can" yank out?

Hi guys

Been looking at cleaning up some of the wiring in the engine bay, and wondering if one can just yank the diagnostic "trash can" and the related wiring out?  It looks so clunky in there, and I do not think they ever got used for the rudimentary tech that is was, but I guess it was advanced at the time.

From what I've read it has no influnce on performance and thus a very "passive" piece of tech.

OK I'll try again to post as my previous thread is locked apparently.

Any feedback on removing the diagnostic plug, a.k.a trash can on the LHS inner fender in the engine bay?  From what I've read it has no output, it's only a passive spot to plug in the reader to get some info from the ignition system.  Correct?

I would like to yank it out to clean things up, along with the pickup at the crank.

Cheers

OK as per usual my impatience got the better of me ::)

Yanked it all and no kaboom so that's a win in my book :D

Looks much cleaner to my eye, I hate stuff not doing stuff  8)

The plug and sensor were only used in the factory for engine setup. Usual over engineering by MB.

Old, but, are we talking about the silver box on the very front of the engine? One big round plug, one single wire plug?

Nope this silver box bolted to the driver side fender is your ignition control module, don't touch this.

I thought that thing controlled the tachometer, too.

No, the tachometer is fed directly from the TD pin on the larger plug in the ignition module.

This might explain some other problems I'm having.
