steering knuckle 6.9, Right 126 330 13 20
steering knuckle 6.9, Left    126 330 12 20

dosent say anywhere about it being no longer available, and this is the 2008 version EPC

however, having checked on world impex parts, the left shows no match, have you tried these numbers at the stealership ?

s class

Niemoller shows the left knuckle at 300 euros, local dealership can source it for just over ZAR5000, which is not much more than 300 euros.  The owner of the car won't pay that, so its looking like I'm just going to have to take a big loss on this one.   >:(

According to that version of the EPC, the steering knuckles are not specific to the 6.9, but are not on all models either. As S-Class pointed out though, there is no way of differentiating between them visually.

Is there any engineering firm that can perform a 3D scan of the part and compare wireframe/rendered models?

TJ, I'm sure there are, but that is really making a big deal out of what should be a simple problem.

So, I know from your previous postings that some other W116's may use the same part.  You said that if I gave you a VIN number, you would be able to give me a yes/no.  Is it possible to give me some direction on what W116's might be likely candidates - ie a range of VIN numbers or something?  W116's are getting pretty scarce in breakers yards here now

OR, fit it to your own car and give him yours. Alot more effort, but atleast you keep the new part ;)

the reason the current knucles now have 126 part numbers is because they were also fitted to "sonderschutz" special version w126's.

I assume thats armored etc, so these knuckles must be stronger.

I assume thats armored etc, so these knuckles must be stronger, but clearly interchangable with the other part number, but I'd do it as a pair.

s class

PB, yes, I discovered that the sonderschutz W126's used the same item, but such cars are hardly plentiful in breakers yards anyway.

And yes, I had also considered using the knuckle out of trusty rusty just to get this damned dark blue project car finished.

Job 33-400 in the manual explains how to tell a 6.9 knuckle from the rest.

Also a change in the position of the backing plate holes.

I'll try a couple of wreckers for you.

Excellent Koan. It's amazing what can be found in the library. 8)

THANK YOU!  I always forget the library.  And in this case, finally the elusive information on how to tell the different versions apart.  That helps hugely.  I'll try some breakers here that have W126 parts.  You just never know.

Called a few wreckers yesterday (Tuesday), not much luck. Three said no straight up, two others are searching and will get back to me.

There is another yard I've used but can't find phone number but I' chase it up and try him, he had a 6.9 a few years ago.

I spent an hour at the breakers yard feeling for knobs.  Knobs on steering knuckles that is.  I had no happiness after checking about 7 W126's lying out in the yard, and about 30 loose W116, W123 and W126 items.   :(

Might be your lucky day s class.

Was given another number to call, they have a 126 330 12 20 left side steering knuckle in stock. I'll PM you with a price.

If you are interested I'll go down there and check it is the right piece and general condition.
