Low oil pressure

Hi everyone,

I've noticed my oil pressure on the M117 is pretty low, find that it sits around the middle of the gauge when cold and then when engine warms up it is barely above the 0 at idle. Does rise to around the middle when engine is revved. I know that with my W126's the oil pressure goes to max when I accelerate.... I've taken the RH rocker cover off and the oiler tubes/plastic clips seem fine. Yet to do other side... Just want to make sure everything is ok, dont want to ignore it and it leads to something catastrophic.

Thank you in advance.

Something is not right.
I would start with a ground zero assessmnet.
That is measure the true oil pressure with an independent gauge at the source.
Then ...
oil filter  .blocked? old/ correctly positioned? o ring in posn?

OR swap out oil press sender for a new one and compare.

You are correct, I should probably start with the basics and change the oil and filter. Even though the oil looks new, I have no idea what weight oil was put in by previous owner, nor do I know the condition of the oil filter. Then I'll move onto the left bank and take rocker off and have a look.

I noticed that the oil pressure on my 1975 350Se with M116 got higher with semi syntetic oil than it was with mineral oil.
Just saying...

On a cold start it should peak at max at idle. On a hot idle it can drop quite low but generally not below 1 bar. At max from 1500 rpm depending on engine variant.
