Hi guys I am doing a power steering fluid and filter change.. But I'm not sure if the car had the correct filter to start with it has a putrid H85 in it.. Is this correct or do I need the old style cork looking ring type?
My car is a 1976 280S
According to the limited info I have found on the internet, mine just falls out of the Mann h85 type that is already fitted. I have a feeling it has the incorrect one?

It's also missing a plastic thingy that my 180E has but has a remote reservoir(280s)
The black all steel reservoirs, whether remotely mounted or mounted on top of the pump itself, require the stone type filter. Part number 000-236-00-55.
While you're not missing the plastic retainer spacer (used only for the later cars), you are missing the steel retainer plate that holds the stone filter in place. Part number 000-236-00-76. See picture below for reference. The parts you need or that are missing are highlighted with a blue square.

Looks like I can get the missing filter disk thing for 30 Aussie dollars from MERCEDES-BENZ out of Germany. Or 50 Dollars from a wreaking yard. :o
Why in the hell would someone charge $50 for a used power steering filter?! A used power steering filter is usually a free item.....because they literally have zero value.
It's likened to buying a used oil filter. That's horrible. Stay away from that wrecking yard at all costs if you can. However, given that they're stone, they can be successfully cleaned. Just be aware that they are brittle.

Prob because here in Tasmania they think anything Mercedes must be expensive.. Problem of living on a island I guess?
I normally order filters etc from the UK. I get them cheaper and faster than any local supplier or Australian supplier..
I wish soooooo bad that there was something that could be done about price gouging....like jail or hefty fines if one is caught.....but then the world has bigger problems, so we'll likely be without indefinitely. Though, it may not hurt to create a safety net that includes reputable shops and part suppliers. Just thinking out loud though.
It could also be freight included in the price?. I shall ask some questions monday.. When I need mechanical parts of such for my 180E I usually get them from Pelican Parts, Based in California I think?
I know Pelican is based in the U.S., but I don't know where. You can also try NewParts and Autohaus.

Bonus that I got it cheaper than the quotes price.
