I made a video on changing the bushings on my 6.9 shifter. My car wasn't reliably starting and I suspect with tis much play, the neutral safety switch was not engaging. After I did it, it seemed to start most times, but still occasionally not?! Im not sure why as its clearly made a difference. Could my NSS still be knackered?

The bushings must be changed to improve the play and the non-start situation. Well done. As it improved but the problem is still present, the next step is the NSS.
I went through this with a couple of W116s a few years back. Problem hasn't reoccurred since.
Here's what I did. Sorry for the lack of details in the explanations/pictures. But I'm confident if you decide to fix the guts of the NSS you'll see immediately once disassembled how it works and how to fix it.

Great video! Well shot and narrated indeed. One small tip on the lube, don't use Vaseline on any rubber/plastic part as it's petroleum based it will eat the bits over time. I use Permatex Dialectric grease for all these jobbies, great stuff.

This is debatable. From what I understand, it depends on what kind of rubber. The newer rubbers as for oil ring seals appears to be ok. The rest I do not know ??? Plastic I forgot........ Have that info in a carburetor rebuild book. Will look later maybe........
No lubrication is required on any of the shift linkage bushings, nor did they leave the factory with any.

Thanks a lot Revilla. I only tried the car a few times and it did start once, but started the next turn. Im hoping its not buggered but it is the next step for sure. In your pics, I can see what the bent bit was though? When I did the transmission fluid change a couple of months ago, I noticed my plastic housing for the wiring was cracked and it could simply be a jiggly wire. I didnt pay too much attention at the time.
For the knowledgeable ones. Is the NSS the same on all 722 or 116s of the time? can I use one off other MBs? If not, can I still buy them new and what is the part number for a 6.9 NSS.
Finally, in removing it, does oil come raining down when you take it off?!
I do have three spare transmissions from 6.9s but Im not sure how you would test the NSS?

What a coincidence, I have just made this job day before yesterday. In my case, one of the big bushings was completely missing. I have used some grease tho, one kind that doesn't react with plastic. Decided to do that because the 2 pins were very rusty and gave me hell to disassemble them. But after I got it, I spent a good amount of time sandpapering them until they come back together effortlessly, and hence the grease to prevent this from happening again.

Did mine last week i had some play in the selector so it couldnt start in P and the parking pawl wasnt working either but it started in neutral , i have only replaced the bushing on the gearbox because i have a column shifter and i didnt see any other bushings in the limited time i had that day , but the problem is solved with this one bushing , but the local MB dealership gave me 2 bushings and i ordered it with the VIN number , i have more to do on the car so the next time i look iff it has a second bushing

The man is a big help, & taught me a lot. He has caused me lots of confusion whether to accept his eagerness to make money by teasing you with short video to then entice you to pay for more help or sell you a tool. At times I want to support him but his methods seem hypocritical. I just realized now that it would be like members here charging me for an answer to my threads posts. :o :-\ :'(

Search for A002 981 02 10. If it's loose you can take some hard bushing material, drill a 9,8 mm hole and rasp the outher side to fit the hole. Odd explanation, but you'll get it when you see it. You save at least €150!
Thanks , i looked on the internet for this partnumber this needle bearing cost overhere €215,- at the MB dealership its indeed a very expensive bearing , i haven't checked it on my car yet but if its necessary than i will modify it also ,
