Yeah, that's what I was thinking about.....how daunting of a task it would be.

I've been told by experts that the very last runs of the W116 m110's were fitted from the factory with rotary compressors and that this continued into the w126 series.  The bracket I've obtained comes from one of those.  Is this correct info? Am I walking into a trap?  Aussie cars had neither catalytic converters  nor climate control, so anything related to those don't trouble me.

I think the U.S. stopped importing 6-cylinder W116 models in 1978 maybe?  My point here is that I can't say for sure yes or no to your question since the very last ones made in 1980 that the U.S. still imported were all V-8 and diesel models.  When I look on EPC, it shows the Sanden set up for the M-110 engines, but it's all very vague.  There are no VIN breaks, and all of the associated parts are "not valid for this BM".

Thankyou.  I have a local guru mechanic I will consult before I go further.

I don't know about the W116 but I have a 1983 W126 M110 with rotary compressor. I will see if I can spot bracket part no. and compressor plate.

Coincidence, maybe, but I have only seen 280S with York's. All others, SE/SEL, and V8's all have rotary's, in these parts, just like the W126.

I thought so, but then I've seen an M-110 engine that had flange type fittings on the York, too.  But who knows if that was a subsequent installation or not?

A few years ago, I parted out a couple of W116 V-8 cars that were European delivered.  Neither one of them had the Frigidaire/Delco A6.  They had something that resembled a Sanden.  I was told that set up was for subsequent installations of A/C systems.....but what a job that would be.  The bracket is completely different, but isn't some cheaply made bracket either.  It fits the M-117 like a glove, and the "sanden like" compressor fits and lines up perfectly.  Does any one know about this set up?  I'm just more curious than anything.

My '84 280SE has a Sanden style compressor with what appears to be an aftermarket bracket.  I'll get a pic tomorrow.  Sounds similar to what you've seen.

Well, maybe I need to post some pictures of the V-8 engines I have with the set-up I'm speaking of, as well.  A picture can definitely speak louder than words at times.
