Title: Catalytic converters on 6.9
Post by: Rolo on 22 October 2019, 06:48 PM
I developed a leak on an exhaust tube and replaced sections of the pipe.  While open, inspected the condition of the cats, and the cores were completely gone.  Anyone know if the core pieces can work their way out of the muffler, I do I need to drop the muffler and shake them out?

Also, I was thinking that a throatier muffler might be a good modification.  I really notice the wind and road noise since driving my other really quiet cars and was thinking a loud pipe might be nicer than the other noises.

Unless you need cats to pass the smog joke then I'd rip it out and get a nice stainless system from Timevalve.

The cats are empty cans.  I'm wondering if the ceramic core material is lodged downstream in one of the mufflers.

I would say the cats have been gutted at some point in the past. It would be unlikely to have disintegrated by itself in my opinion.
