Can somebody explain if/why the VIN is not visible in the Data Plate?

Ptashek, but it doesn´t coincide with the "VIN" in the other image, by the door.

The one ending in 01160 is located in the plate that´s under the front of the hood.

Apparently the one under the hood is just the body number, not the VIN...

That plate on the radiator support is the options plate.  Correct, it is not the vin, it is the aufbau number.

Indeed. I've mixed up the plates.

The actual VIN was never put on the data plates.  The VIN was always on the "B" pillar, "A" pillar,  and firewall.

This is helpful and timely. I was at my Mercedes dealership yesterday and they told me the vin tag and radiator support data tag were supposed to match. They really got confused when thier system could not recognize the "vin" on the data tag but could recognize the vin from the vin tag on the A column. Next time I am there I will just tell them to ask you guys.
