bumpers

  I live in the US and have a '78 280SE, which I absolute love.  However, the "American" bumpers, which look kinda' like a diving board at a swimming pool, have an absolutely awful appearance.  However, if I replace them with Euro bumpers, will insurance companies cover the car for collision damage (the American bumpers do seem more protective of the front end of the car)?  Anyone know anything about this issue?  Thanks.
