Hi, I'm going to change the brake pipes, I can't find the diameter and type of couplings anywhere.

I hope you help me :) EU 280SE

I did this recently and the some of your queries are answered here

The pipe I bought has an outside diameter of 3/16 inches.

Do not tighten the brake pipe unions too tight: it will deform the flare and cause a leak!

Brake lines on the W116 are standard European size - 4.75mm.(3/16" is 4.76mm and will do too, if you can't get metric).

I highly recommend cunifer pipes.

Hello,

thanks a lot, unfortunately did not find it in the search.

I have ordered ATE 24.8134-0547.1 because it is commonly available in our car parts.

Most, if not all, of the metal brake lines for a W116 are still available new from Mercedes for very little money.  The problem is that the lines are always a little longer than what is needed, and they're delivered rolled up.  So you have to straighten them and then bend them to fit the car.  It' a pain, but better than nothing.

True, but they are of very poor quality if the W124 lines are anything to go by. Painted mild steel, and the paint peels of as you straighten the bends. Burrs on flares, etc.

It's much better value to have the pipes custom made from cunifer. They'll outlast the car, and there's zero corrosion to worry about.
