whist working on my 123 280te restoration for the last couple of years, not much has been needed on the 6.9.  then on the weekend I went to start it and dead as a dodo. not even the jumper kit got it going. wiser heads suggested it wasn't the starter and could be a completely dead battery so off I went and got one.  I did ask about Varta, but the guy noted Varta were now owned by Delcor anyway and made in South Korea!  my battery was about 7 years old so anything is better than that. I was glad to see not rust on my battery tray underneath after I redid the engine bay a few years ago. getting the locking plate on the battery is a real bugger in the 6.9, not much room at all.

this is the current state of the 280te, time to turn it over very soon
(geez, id forgotten what a nuisance compressing shots to <1mb can be!)

A good battery should last that long. Some years ago I virtually totally eliminated any draw on the battery while off. The biggest drain was the original Hirschmann aerial which has been replaced by a new Hirschmann aerial. The original was black which suited the white car just fine but since the car has changed to a dark colour a chrome one looks way better. The battery on my 6.9 is approaching a decade old. Great job on the W123. Sadly I have no room left for more toys or projects.
