Automatic antenna questions.

My antenna goes up a little then stops, wont retract at all unless pushed down. Question, is it worth taking it out for a clean and lube or do people usually just buy a replacement? Second question, if it can be refurbished can it be done still in the body? Thanks.

You have to pull it off and do it on the bench.  Usually they are pretty crusty inside and a good clean and lube can improve the action.

You'll want to run the mast up and down using the cable by hand and check for binding.  Also inspect the cable for worn spots where the drive wheel may be slipping.  You can replace the mast easily.

After you get it repaired, be sure to wipe the mast down with WD40 regularly, at least weekly.
