Title: Ashtray wiring help
Post by: ACC2 on 31 January 2020, 06:41 PM
Hey everyone, looking for some help with my ash tray wiring. I'm not sure which order the plug wires go as the plug exploded when it came apart lol.

The black and yellow will go to the center tap of the 12+ supply to the ash tray light bulb and cigar lighter, and the brown wire (brown is always ground on Mercedes) will go to the other connection.  Be certain to buy a new plug housing before you put everything back together.  They're still available from Mercedes.

Thanks for the reply! I'm still a little confused.

The plug has only two holes with a small alignment hole for the pin so the wiring goes on the right way around. These two wires have to go on in only one of two combinations :s

Correct.  They go on only one way.  Worse case scenario, determine which of the male terminals on the ash tray goes to ground and which one goes to the hot side of the cigar lighter and the hot side of the light bulb that light up the ash tray.  You'll have to literally follow the brass slide contacts on the ash tray to see where they go to.
