Air cleaner question

Greetings from Florida!

I've recently had my 1979 Euro 280se air cleaner powder-coated and it looks fantastic. The trouble is, I'm rather stumped on how to get the new Mercedes felt gasket to seat on the lid...it doesn't want to stay in place.
Does anyone have any experience in this?

I think contact cement (the type where you brush some on one surface and then some on the other surface, wait until they dry, and then stick them together) is the best choice. I like Weldwood brand, which you can find at many hardware stores and comes in small bottles. It seems to hold better and last longer than a spray adhesive. Of course, just be careful with application--maybe use cotton swabs?

Squiggle Dog,
That may do the trick, as I noticed that the old felt seemed like it may have had an adhesive applied. Just not sure about whether the Powder coating will allow good contact.

It will work. I had one powder coated and the new felt seal (the original was rubber) adhered well.

Contact cement or trim adhesive. Once the felt is applied clamp the lid on the housing to make sure it stays where you want it.

Fantastic! It really helps to know someone else has tread this way before me.

Thanks everyone!
