Accelerator pedal issue

Hi folks,

To cut a long story short, my accelerator pedal has come adrift from its floor mounting (RHD Aussie car). Quite a memorable event as it jammed at about 3000rpm as I was trying to stop at a red light.

I've pulled carpet etc out and it looks like it fits under the thick insulation material.   Before I hack it away I thought I should consult the brains trust here.

I have a new one (!!) as a kind vendor of some other parts a few years back threw it into the parcel.

Does anyone have a diagram or photo of how and where it fits on the floor?

Thanks for any help or advice.

MB just made a new batch of the metal bracket that welds to the floorpan.

I had this problem last year.  I ordered the part from the dealer. Whether you weld or drill a hole be sure you reinforce the area surrounding the bracket. It is a very easy fix. :)

Would you happen to have a part number or even better a source? I've been driving around with no pedal and a small hole in the floor for about a year. :/
Please and thank you

Just curious what exactly came loose? Was it a metal fatigue thing or bolt come loose? Sounds like a dangerous event we may all have to be wary of if it's happened to a few people and our cars are getting old.

Floor pan rust eats the mounting plate.

To answer gf's question: the bracket disintegrated at the elbow.  Looks like a combination of rust and metal fatigue.  The floor pan is rust free, so I'm not entirely sure how this worked out.  I suspect it has been broken for some time when I look at how the new part fits.  Basically the carpet was putting pressure on the pedal.  My first thought was a problem under the bonnet. When I put my foot under the pedal to reduce the revs eventually the pedal came off.  That's when I realised the problem was in the cabin.

Wow, brutal  :o

Just shows you how the sound deadening material really holds on to moisture. Perfect breeding ground for the dreaded tin worm...
