'77 280SE Alternator Removal

Can anyone provide steps on how to remove the alternator on the M110 280SE, thanks.  I don't want to remove anything if not needed.  US version

If you have A/C, I think you'll need to drop it out from below.

See if you have sufficient access to reach the 17mm bolts/nuts, including the adjuster, then simply undo them all, remove the wiring connector, place the belt aside and remove.

I don't think you need to remove anything else, but if in doubt check the service manual.

I do have AC, thanks.  Not sure if the service manual gives instructions (well, could not find it)on how to remove the alternator, but I will double check.

You may also have to remove the smog pump to get the alt out. The whole thing is probably easier to do form below since you have the big York compressor in the way.

The smog pump is on the opposite side of the engine, I think I just need to concentrate on removing the compressor, thanks.
