75 280S Rear CV Axle removal

Hi there, trying to change my rear axle.. I removed the 6 or so bolts that are around axle on differential but axle only moves out like 1/4 inch.. Do I need to remove Diff cover to take out a C-Clip or something? Any help is greatly appreciated..

That's correct, there's a c clip on each of the axle shafts.
