Title: 6.9 Power steering pump reseal
Post by: daantjie on 24 June 2020, 06:51 PM
Hi guys
Adding this one to the Covid boredom list...got a slow leak from the power steering pump, any pitfalls on this jobby?  Seems pretty straightforward but I've gotten  bitten by that way of thinking waaaaay too many times :o
Cheers

I guess check to see if it's a Vickers or a ZF. Then determine price/supply of the kit. see if you can find an online article on a dissassemble etc...may have to move outside the MB circle of tech stuff.
You do well to be cautious...........rotten little gizmos like this often have a dumb a..r...s...e way of being constructed requiring 4 asbestos size 3 hands to reassemble in a vacuum. :D

Thanks Randy, yup it's a ZF 90 bar pump, these things are pretty rare so I really don't want to cock it up...

A lot of the re-seal kits don't come with a front radial seal, so you may need to order that separately.  The kit and front seal aren't anything special for the different output pumps. Just be cautious about removing the pulley, as damage can happen if handled incorrectly.

Thanks Aaron indeed I had to order the shaft seal separately.  I've seen some fails online with the pulley, looks like a little heat might be required to get it off.
