6.9 oil filters

Hello,

apparently oil filters for 6.9 are running out. I learned in a german forum that MB  still has a stock of appr. 7000 items. Aftermarket filters of Hengst are NLA, I couldn't track any other so MB seems to remain the only source in Germany.  Maybe other countries have different sources?!

I have bought 3 and now have a total of 4 in stock. I make appr. 1500 km per year, very few short distance trips with cold engine, and do an oil lube every second year. If I change the filter every second oil lube I can cover 20 years. Being 60, that's fine with me.

I jokingly asked at MB if they have a 'Buy 3 and get one free' or similar offer. The guy smiled and said 'No, but I can give you 10 %', and he did.   8)

Thanks for the info.  I'm got several on hand as well.  Probably few of us reach the 12k change interval, but aren't you supposed to change oil annually regardless?  Are you suggesting changing the oil but leaving the filter in place for a couple years cause mileage is so low?  Doing so seems pretty harmless to me.  Cheers,

Yes. After two, even three years, the oil is barely dark and I guess that it is ok with the oil and the filter to extend  change intervalls.

Given how inexpensive MB brand oil filters are compared to aftermarket I just always buy MB brand.  I think the last one I bought was around $12.00 USD.  In fact, I can't remember the last time I bought an aftermarket filter.  I've nothing against Hengst or MANN at all, but with the cost difference being so negligible I have always bought from MB.

For that sum I wouldn't care but in Germany a MB 6.9 filter inlet is 50 € /$.

You can still find these from Mahle/Knecht part OX65D.  Plentiful and cheap.  No worries  8)

Mann+Hummel never made the 6.9 oil filter, even as aftermarket.
Which is weird, as they have been an almost exclusive OE supplier to Daimler for 5+ decades.

Any idea who was the OE? Knecht maybe?

Luckily the H929x for the M117 is still in good supply. Last batch I bought was made in Brazil.
Costs 9EUR from Mann, 14EUR from MB - the only difference is the box.

They make about $A50 by the time you hold it in your hand in Aus.
