In that case, how does one access the four socket head screws with the manifold in place? ??? The boot is flared, isn't it?

A length of 6mm hex key with a socket on the end.

Just checked, fully engages, not quite vertical but quite acceptable.

The rubber boot has 4 recesses moulded in to give access.

One of the ball ended wobble hex would work too, don't have any, not keen on the limited contact area.

I assure you it can be done.

Bad idea on a car of this vintage - I had the "ball" snap off in one of the water pump screws when i removed my pump, that simple screw removal then took over 3 hours, just for that one screw  ::)

I can see that that happening, not much meat where the ball is formed, another reason to avoid them, or a only as a last resort.

Alrighty, a length of 6mm key will be the go. Now why didn't I think of that? ::) 8)
